Life in the UK test topics and syllabus
The Life in the UK test covers four main chapters from the official handbook: values and principles of the UK, a long history of the United Kingdom, a modern and thriving society, and the UK government, the law, and your role.
Each chapter contributes questions to the 24-question exam. While the exact split varies, all chapters are represented, making it important to study all four areas rather than focusing on just one or two.
Why targeted study matters
Most people have natural strengths and weaknesses across the four chapters. Someone who has lived in the UK for years might know about society and government but struggle with historical dates. A history enthusiast might ace those questions but miss details about modern institutions.
Identifying your weak areas early means you spend your study time where it matters most, rather than revising topics you already know.
